2001 Pennsylvania Worker of the Year Announced

FORT WORTH, Texas, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- To honor hardworking people everywhere on Labor Day, Dickies Workwear is proud to announce its 2001 state and national winners in the 10th Annual American Worker of the Year Awards.

John High, 38, of Narvon, is the 2001 Pennsylvania Worker of the Year. Mr. High was nominated by his wife, Linda who wrote: "John left his job at an excavating company and began The Barn Saver, saving buildings he had once destroyed ... [he] keeps barns alive, salvaging 90-100% of each and every one."

The winners were selected from thousands of entries from across the nation. Entrants were asked to write in 100 words or less why their nominee represents "the spirit of the American worker" and deserves recognition.

The 2001 National American Worker of the Year will be announced on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Labor Day, Monday September 3. Last year's winner (a park ranger from Wisconsin) was honored in the official Labor Day parade with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.

"Reading all the entries each year reaffirms what we've always believed about American workers," says Jon Ragsdale, vice president of marketing for the 79-year-old workwear company. "Sometimes we think we have the toughest job of all -- picking just one person from each state."

Each state winner will receive over $500 in cash and prizes. The national winner will receive his or her choice of a 2002 full-size Chevy Silverado pickup truck or Chevy Blazer.

In addition to the Chevrolet truck, the national winner will receive a trip for two to Nashville for the awards ceremony, broadcast live on the Grand Ole Opry September 28.
